One of the things that is not usual in brazilians´ routines is to arrange with friends or family to spend the day in a lake. We for sure go to waterfalls and beaches but hardly ever to a lake! And when we go, it is to go on a paddleboat (Ugh! That’s so from the 90’S). Canada is packed with lakes and people seem to definitely take advantage of that. Then, they carry everything with them. Barbecue, chairs, lots of food and that’s how they enjoy the sunny summer day (so rare during the year!).
But how not to do it when you have such beautiful blue water?! One of the explanations for having this turquoise colour is related to glacier flour that is a product from the friction between the ice and the rock formations. In spite of all that, the water is very cold.
We passed by a few lakes in our trip through Alberta. Lake Louise is very popular and one of Banff’s most famous landscapes. It’s, for sure, worth seeing this natural beauty. It’s possible to do a kayak ride or stay at a nice hotel with a view to of the lake (that obviously wasn’t our case). This entire region of The Rocky Mountains is wonderful! Whoever goes to the country’s west side should take the chance and rent a car to get to know Banff and Jasper!
The Grassi Lakes are small lakes in Canmore, a little mountain town close to Banff. To get there you need to go for a little hike, as the lakes are on top of a hill. I guess it is the most beautiful water shade I’ve ever seen! And there’s even a rock where people go climbing.
Sylvan Lake is close to Red Deer and it’s where we had a grea t afternoon with Mateo’s (one of Matt’s best friends) family. The lake is huge and the picnic table´s well distributed so it can be a perfect outing as couple or with friends or families. We had a barbecue, talked a lot, but didn’t go into the water because it was very cold…
We also drove by Abraham Lake on our way to Banff (If I’m not wrong). We stopped there for a while, taking in the landscape that made me feel as if I was in a movie. While we were there, one more family got there to spend the day with their children at the lake. Even though the tiny rocks hurt your feet a little, it’s worth going in this clear water!
Quarry Lake is the last of this list and also in Canmore. It’s a very cool artificial lake! We went there in the summer with Matt’s family (but I lost the pictures) and got back there in the winter. During the summer it’s packed with people swimming and the water was quite nice! In the other hand in winter, well, you can see how it was by looking at the pictures… hehe
Uma das coisas que não está presente na rotina de nós brasileiros é combinar com os amigos e a família de passar a tarde em um lago. Claro, a gente vai pra cachoeira, represa e praia, mas quase nunca para lago! E quando vamos, é pra andar de pedalinho (coisa tão anos 90). O Canadá é cheio deles e o pessoal tem o costume de fazer isso. Aí levam tudo! Churrasqueira, cadeiras, muita comida e assim aproveitam os dias bonitos de verão (tão raros durante o ano!).
Mas também, como não fazer isso quando se tem águas nesses tons de azul tão lindos?! Uma das explicações pra ela ter essa cor turquesa é em função da presença de um “pó glacial”, que é produto do atrito entre placas de gelo e a rocha das montanhas. Mas, como nem tudo são flores, a agua é obviamente muito gelada!
Passamos por alguns lagos na nossa viagem por Alberta. O Lake Louise é bastante cheio e é um dos cenários mais famosos de Banff. Mas com certeza vale a pena ver essa beleza da natureza! é possível andar de kayak ou se hospedar em um hotel com vista pro lago (que com certeza não foi o nosso caso). Essa região toda das Montanhas Rochosas do Canadá é maravilhosa! Quem for pro lado Oeste do país tem que aproveitar e alugar um carro pra conhecer Banff e Jasper!
The Grassi Lakes são pequenos lagos em Canmore, uma cidadezinha de montanha bem perto de Banff. Pra chegar lá tem que percorrer uma trilha (bem tranquila), já que os lagos ficam no topo de uma montanha. Acho que é a cor de água mais bonita que já vi! Ainda tem uma pedreira que fica cheia de gente escalado.
Sylvan Lake é próximo a Red Deer e foi onde passamos uma agradável tarde com a família colombiana de Mateo (um dos melhores amigos do Matt). O lago é gigante e bem espaçada a localização das mesas de piquenique umas das outras, então fica bem reservado pra uma família. Fizemos churrasco, conversamos muito e só não entramos na agua porque estava bem gelada…
Passamos também pelo Abraham Lake no nosso caminho pra Banff (se não me engano). Demos uma paradinha pra ficarmos alguns minutos naquele cenário cinematográfico. Enquanto estávamos lá, mais uma família chegou pra passar o dia com as crianças no lago. Apesar das pedrinhas machucarem o pé, vale a pena entrar nessa agua clarinha!
Quarry Lake é o ultimo dessa lista, também em Canmore. É um lago artificial bem legal! Fomos no verão com a família do Matt (mas perdi essas minhas fotos) e voltamos no inverno. No verão tava lotado de gente nadando e a água tava uma delicia! Já no inverno, vocês podem ver como ficou pelas fotos… hehe
